Does deleting WhatsApp media delete the messages too?
No. Clearing media from Manage storage removes the photos, videos and voice notes but leaves the text of every conversation intact. The chat will show a placeholder where the file used to be.
Will my contacts know I deleted media from a chat?
No. Deleting media from your own device is entirely local. Nobody else is notified, and their copy is unaffected.
Is it safe to delete the WhatsApp backup file?
It is safe for your current chats, which live on your phone — but you lose your restore point. If your phone is lost or reset before the next backup runs, those chats are gone.
